2022 Swing Camp Alberta Update 2022-06-29

Hi everybody. Here is a quick update on the swing/Django camp happening August 19-21, 2022. Portapotties have been booked! Please reserve your camp spot by sending $30 to Kevin Jacobson at the_cave@yahoo.com. This will cover the cost of the portapotties. I will out camping quite a bit this summer so don’t worry if I don’t get back to you right away.

I am working on getting a couple of guitar instructors. Once again Phill from http://www.calgarysbestguitarlessons.com/ will be one of the instructors there. I am also working on getting another top-notch gypsy jazz guitar player, teacher, nice guy for a few hours on Saturday afternoon. He can run a general workshop and then split up for some one-on-one lessons. Still working on the details and logistics. Please bring some extra cash to fund these instructors as they are both working musicians and teachers.

A message from Phill:

Hi guys, Phill West here!

I was the “resident guitar teacher” at the last django camp so many of you know me already. I just wanted to let you guys know that I plan to do a bunch of “jam lessons” over the summer, online (for everyone) and in person (calgary), in preparation for Django camp (or just cause they are a blast and will make a huge difference in your confidence and playing and jamming skills!)

I’d love to help answer questions, get you guys familiar with Gypsy Jazz more, and give you the info you need to be WAY more confident and comfortable when you are playing this style (or any style). That will help you sound better, and have way more fun too!

I’m also doing tons of general jam lessons for students of almost all skill levels and instruments!  This can help a ton with “creative jamming” (and a ton with SONGWRITING) where we make things up on the spot and see what kind of amazing magical jam moments we can create!

This is BY FAR my FAV type of jamming and I’m always shocked how little it happens out in the real word (cause we all want to listen to more bad old top 40 cover songs, don’t we, hahaha!!??). A bit of knowledge goes a massive way to helping you create new ideas, create layers, work together and really complement the other jammers… it’s AMAZING once you get it going!

Anyways thanks for your time, I’ve been teaching most of my life and I’m still excited to get people jamming better and having way more fun!

Feel free to get in touch and I’ll put you on my jam lessons list!
